Sea-Changers is proud to have been accepted as a member of the 'Our Seas Coalition'.
The Coalition is an alliance of Scottish organisations, businesses, communities and individuals that support a move to sustainable use of Scottish coastal seas.
The Our Seas Coalition is campaigning for greater protection of Scotland’s seas to recover nature and sustainable livelihoods. Specifically they are calling for a minimum of 30% of Scotland's inshore waters to beprotected from bottom-trawling and dredging to recover biodiversity andenable sustainable fishing to continue.
Today, the coalition has grown to include more than 160 member organisations, spanning community groups, marine-based businesses, artists, fishers and national charities. This diverse membership brings together a remarkable breadth and depth of knowledge, skills and lived experience.
This wide-ranging expertise strengthens the coalition’s ability to advocate effectively for healthier coastal seas and the communities that depend on them.
To achieve this the Scottish Government should:
prioritise inshore areas for sustainable low impact fisheries
implement a modern inshore limit on bottom-trawling and dredging
roll-out effective vessel tracking on all fishing boats
ensure a just transition for affected fishing sectors.
If you would like to know more about the work on the Coalition please visit their website. There you can find information about how you can become involved in the Coalition's work. You can also find information and sign their petition. This calls on the First Minister and Scottish Government to stop the chronic destruction of Scottish seabeds and revive inshore fishing by reinstating a coastal limit that protects at least 30% of Scotland inshore seas from bottom-trawling and scallop dredging.
