Sea-Changers gets support from Leicestershire Runners

We are thrilled to announce that a Leicestershire running club has chosen Sea-Changers as their chosen charity until March 2025. Helen Webb and Rachel Lopata, Co-Founders of Sea-Changers, are both keen runners and have been members of their local club, Desford Striders, for the past ten years. It is a very welcoming running club that embraces runners of all abilities and it is an active part of the local community in Leicestershire.

Each year the club members choose a charity to support and members then go on to raise money for their chosen cause through auctions, sales, and events. This year Helen and Rachel were thrilled and surprised when it was announced that the club's members had nominated and voted for Sea-Changers to be their chosen charity. Sea-Changers is a national charity, and traditionally the club would choose a local cause. But this year the club's members wanted to support their fellow Striders, Helen and Rachel, after both of them received MBEs for their contribution to marine nature conservation, in 2023.

Rachel said:

“We love being part of our running club, so it's lovely to have their support. Striders have, over the years, supported many wonderful local charities. Desford is one of the most landlocked parts of the country, so for the members to choose Sea-Changers, in order to support our efforts, is a real honour. “

Helen added:

“We love our running and being part of our Desford Striders' family. We’re excited, not only to know they are fundraising for us, but to have them support our hard work in this way. On a wider point, the running industry has some work to do to become more sustainable - from reducing the amount of plastic used at races, through producing kit that is more easily recycled. We hope that we can also raise awareness of some of these issues and the impact that runners can have in creating a healthier natural environment ."
