Sydney Runs for the Sea

We are delighted to welcome our latest fantastic fundraiser, Sydney Harrington. She will be pounding the pavements and soaking up the amazing atmosphere of the crowds on April the 27th as she takes part in the TCS London Marathon.

Sydney has a busy role as a vet but she is training hard along side that to make sure she is ready for the 26.2 miles that awaits her on race day. Sydney said:

I’m excited to fundraise for Sea Changers UK through the London Marathon because of my deep, personal connection to the ocean and my desire to make a meaningful impact on its preservation. I grew up in Florida, surrounded by beautiful beaches, and my love for the ocean was nurtured in a beach town where the sea was always just a few steps away. Unfortunately, I also witnessed firsthand the destructive effects humans have on the ocean, from plastic pollution to the loss of marine habitats. These experiences have shaped my life and fuelled my commitment to protecting the marine environment.

My love for the ocean didn't just inspire me to enjoy its beauty – it also drove me to pursue a career in science and ultimately veterinary medicine. I believe that understanding and preserving our natural world is crucial, and I want to play a role in safeguarding the creatures that depend on the ocean’s health.

Sea Changers UK’s mission to fund marine conservation projects is something I strongly believe in, and I want to do my part to support their vital work.’

We want to say a huge thank you to Sydney and look forward to hearing all about her training journey…and of course share her excitement on the 27th of April. To donate to Sydney’s fundraising page click here.

Sydney is one of a number of amazing individuals who have signed up to undertake amazing challenges to raise money for Sea-Changers. And you can join them. Every penny raised by our super Sea-Changers helps fund our vital grant programmes. Sea-Changers make a unique contribution to fund grass root projects and local communities to take action for the marine environments or species they understand best. In 2024 alone we funded:

• 9 new coastal water fountain locations

• 36 projects through our Main Grants Fund

• 23 projects through our Small Grants Fund

We’re proud to have funded projects all over the UK, from Cornwall to Aberdeen and our fundraisers are vital in ensuring our funds can meet the increasing demand from UK marine conservation projects.
