We are proud to be a charity that is primarily run by a team of amazing and dedicated volunteers. Over the past few months we have shared some volunteer spotlights to introduce some of our hard working team. So we are very pleased to introduce you to Jo Hutchinson.

Joanne Hutchinson aka Jo, our Social Media Lead looks after our LinkedIn page, creating inspiring content and building a community of ocean lovers across the UK. She also oversees the work on all our social media channels.

Living by the coast, the sea has always been a huge part of her life. With a busy schedule, she wanted a way to give back that also played to her strengths. When she discovered the social media volunteer role with Sea-Changers, it was perfect, combining her marketing skills with her passion for ocean conservation. A standout moment from her volunteering journey was representing Sea-Changers at the launch of a new coastal fountain in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.

The project helps reduce plastic waste, a cause that’s especially close to her heart, and having one installed so close to home made the experience even more special. Her connection to the coast goes back to childhood. Growing up with terrible hayfever, the beach was her ultimate escape, the one place she could finally breathe!

Her fondest memory is a winter walk along South Shields beach with her family, bundled up against the icy winds but still stopping for an ice cream from Minchella’s, as any true Geordie would.  These days, volunteering has become a family affair. Jo often involves her little boy in beach cleans and loves visiting local projects supported by Sea-Changers. She even gave a presentation at his school about the joy of volunteering, and he’s now the proud owner of three Sea-Changers t-shirts!

We’re so grateful to have Jo as part of the Sea-Changers family, using her creativity, energy, and love for the ocean to inspire others and make a real difference.
