Join The 2.6 Challenge to help to save the UK’s charities

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on charities, with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in fundraising income. Sea-Changers' income has also been severely hit as many of the fantastic businesses who raise money for our marine conservation fund are simply not able to operate at the current time.

We are sensitive to the fact that the NHS and charities supporting the nation's health and welfare are rightly foremost in people's minds. However we are determined to do everything we can to support at least some of the critically important marine environmental projects that are applying to us for help.

So, we're inviting you, your family and friends to take part in a fresh, but important, distraction: The 2.6 Challenge, from Sunday 26th April to help to save the UK's charities. Every penny you raise will help. With our projects, a little goes a very long way.

Because of the impact of the pandemic on so many charities, the organisers of the biggest mass-participation sports events across the country have come together to create this new campaign to raise vital funds to help save the sector. The 2.6 Challenge will launch on Sunday 26th April - what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world's biggest one-day annual fundraising event.

You can take part in an activity of your choice based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to support Sea-Changers via Virgin Money Giving or Just Giving. People of all ages are taking part in The 2.6 Challenge with a host of activities from walking, running or cycling 2.6 miles, juggling for 2.6 minutes, hopping on one leg for 26 minutes, baking 26 buns, to holding online workouts with 26 friends. How about getting your kids to think of an activity for every letter in the alphabet and completing the 26 activities between them? Our Scottish trustee, Sarah, is thinking of swimming in Loch Creran (right by her house) for 26 minutes. At 7 degrees Celsius in the water, we think even 2.6 minutes would be amazing! The ideas and options are endless.

The only requirement is that you must follow Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing. Most people are taking part from Sunday 26th April but you can do your activity whenever is most convenient for you.

There are just five simple steps to take:

1.Dream up your 2.6 challenge if you need help there are lots of ideas here.

2.Head here to donate £26, if you are able, or whatever you can afford, to Sea-Changers or to set up a fundraising page.

3.Ask all your friends and family to sponsor you and challenge them to do their own 2.6 Challenge

4.Complete your challenge.

5.Share a photo or video of your challenge on social media with #TwoPointSixChallenge #Givingbacktothesea #BeASeaChanger
