Back in 2021 we were contacted by Blue Wilson who had just started an amazing challenge to walk the entire UK coastline to raise money for two charities close to her heart; Sea-Changers and Surfers Against Sewage.
Blue is based in Selby told us how she approached the task and what she has learnt along the way:
‘I am taking on this challenge in stages due to other commitments and I alternate sometimes between heading north from my last most northerly point reached and heading south from my last most southerly point reached. I have also walked other long distance paths but I am now focusing solely on this. During my treks I have become increasingly aware of the perils endangering our oceans, marine life, coastal communities and climate. I have seen first hand some of the great work my chosen charities have done and I want to help by contributing as much as possible to their future projects. Every year I hope to complete as big a section as possible until successfully completing the entire coastline in an estimated five years.’
By April 2023 Blue has walked 1,760.57 miles in 103 days and has reached as far south as Oare Marshes in Kent and as far north as Inverness in Scotland in a continual line. Her next stint will be from the 27th May 2023 for eight and a half days continuing northwards from Inverness, crossing the Kessock Bridge and setting off round the Black Isle and up the Highland coast. Look out for her along the way.
