In May, Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary, who rescue, rehabilitate and release marine mammals in Shetland, brought a Marine Wildlife Roadshow to the islands to inform, educate and excite hundreds of local schoolchildren about the magnificent marine environment around their shores, the creatures that live there and the threats they face from human impact, including pollution and marine litter. Andy Peters of The Whale Workshop in Devon brought his incredible collection of inflatable whales, dolphins, seals and sharks north for a five day tour of all the local schools from 6-10 May, followed by two public displays in Lerwick and Hillswick at the weekend of 11 and 12 May. The visit was made following a grant from Sea-Changers and the support of various local businesses and organisations, including NorthLink Ferries, Shetland Bird Club, Northmaven Community Council, Lerwick Community Council, and local salmon companies Scottish Sea Farms, Grieg Seafood and Cooke Aquaculture.
