Beach Guardian is a Community Interest Company based in north Cornwall which has developed a huge amount of support, including over 16,000 Facebook followers, since it was started by a father and daughter team back in 2017.
Among many other things, Beach Guardian organises community summer beach cleans on the seven bays around Padstow. Back in 2019 they wanted to run a similar programme over the Christmas holiday period and Sea-Changers helped with funding advertising and marketing costs as well as volunteers' travel expenses. Ten beach cleans with a Christmas Fancy Dress theme were organised and attracted a whopping 408 people to take part - many of whom had never been involved in beach cleans before . As well as collecting litter from the local beaches the volunteers also gathered marine litter survey data for the Marine Conservation Society and learnt how make simple lifestyle changes to reduce plastic pollution. The Christmas beach cleans are now an annual event.
