The Sea-Changers Next Wave Fund

Giving children and young adults the chance to connect with the sea through conservation
Our partners at BMT recognise the ocean as both an enabler of industry and a fragile ecosystem in need of protection. That’s why they’ve partnered with us at Sea-Changers, to launch the BMT Next Wave Fund, a grant programme designed to give children and young adults (aged 5-18) with limited access to the coast the chance to connect with the sea through conservation-led experiences.
The BMT Next Wave Fund is being managed by Sea-Changers and supported by an initial £20,000 donation. The funding will be distributed through Sea-Changers' Main Grant Fund and Small Grant Fund and the application process remains the same.
Projects engaging children and young adults will automatically be funded through the BMT donation and they may additionally be eligible to get additional support from BMT employees as volunteers if appropriate and helpful.
Projects wishing to be funded through the Next Wave Fund need only undertake the usual Sea-Changers application process. Just make sure that if your project is aimed at disadvantaged children and young people, that fact is emphasised and clearly drawn out in your application and we'll do the rest!

Project Ideas
Engagement & Education
Your project might be about inspiring the next generation of custodians for the sea. Whether its learning about their local eco-systems or specific species and the threats that they face, the Next Wave Fund will support projects aimed at increasing ocean advocacy amongst future generations.
Citizen Science
Your project might aim to get children and young adults engaged in monitoring the marine environment through hands on citizen science. Participating in activities of this kind can develop skills and knowledge, build understanding of the pressures facing the oceans and inspire the participants towards STEM subjects.
Direct
Action
There's plenty of opportunity for children and young adults to learn whilst also taking direct action to clean up polluted coastlines. The Next Wave Fund is here to apply to if you need equipment to assist young people getting stuck in to activities of this kind.
