2017 - Grant Awarded - £600

Starting in 2017, True Harvest Seeds will collect local seed of lyme grass, marram grass, sand couch grass, sand sedge, sea kale and oyster plant under licence, with land owners permission and provide training in this for our volunteers from our local conservation action groups. We will sow the seeds in seed trays at our seed centre in Kilclief, Downpatrick protecting them until they are hardy. We'll test some seed for viability in our laboratory. We'll build four raised beds, fill with appropriate substrate of sand and stones ready to plant out the plants, some of them will be sharing.  These little plants will grow and ultimately set seed which can then be harvested for many years making native seed available for further local restoration work without collecting excessively from the wild. 200 plants of each species will be planted so as to ensure genetic diversity.  If you are an organisation that would like more detail on this work to either avail of the seed or ask how to emulate this project please visit our website or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
