2016 - Grant Award - £202.56

Rhu and Shandon Community Council are very pleased to have been awarded a grant of £202.56 from Sea-Changers. We applied for the grant to help us to fund  Beach Cleans along our Rhu and Shandon coastline, on the Gareloch, Firth of Clyde.

The money will be spent almost equally between banners publicising upcoming events, displayed at our village centre and at the stretch to be cleaned, and the hardware we require to physically clean the beaches.

The direct action of cleaning beaches is a highly cost-effective use of funds. This grant will enable us to furnish volunteers with the tools they need, including bags, bag hoops, litter pickers and protective gloves. Removing the litter altogether not only adds to the appearance of the area, it also removes the danger of entanglement and plastic ingestion to seabirds, fish, and marine mammals.
