Quiz prompts support from Nexen

Do you know:

How many pieces of plastic litter are estimated to be floating in every 1 square km of the world’s oceans? or, How many marine species that are seen in UK waters are endangered or critically endangered?

These were just some of the quiz questions that  Sea-Changer co-founders, Helen Webb and Rachel  Lopata posed for delegates at the first  E-Reps event in Aberdeen in November 2012.

This was a forum organised for the UK Oil and Gas Industry to provide an opportunity to meet environmental specialists from across the industry, stakeholders, regulators. Sea-Changers  started off the E-Reps Forum Event with an interactive marine conservation quiz that raised some of the key marine threats facing the oceans currently and considered the impact of these.

Amongst the delegates attending the event was Laura Reid from Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd. Laura enjoyed the quiz  and  wanted to show support for the work that Sea-Changers are doing to raise money for UK marine conservation projects.

“Nexen is committed to making a positive difference to the communities in which it works, I was delighted we could support Sea-Changes with a £1000 community investment award".

Sea-Changers is run by volunteers and all development/running costs to carry out our fundraising work are raised through fundraising events, and individual donations. Heather Barker, Chair of Sea-Changers said “This is a great donation for Sea-Changers. As a small charity this amount allows us to plan ahead more confidently in 2013 and extend the scope of our development. We aim to raise thousands of pounds for a range of marine conservation projects throughout the UK and so the support of Nexen is really appreciated.”
