New marine conservation charity Sea—Changers has allocated its first small grant to the National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, Cornwall. The donation of £500 will be formally handed over when Sea-Changers visit the Hatchery on 13th September 2012. The money will go towards feed for the baby lobsters that the Hatchery nurtures for release back into the wild.

Sea-Changers’ founders Helen Webb and Rachel Lopata along with patron Maya Plass will then be scuba diving to release a batch of baby lobsters, developed in the Hatchery, back into the sea that same afternoon.

Heather Barker, Chair of Sea-Changers’ said: “The work of The National Lobster Hatchery is exactly the kind of community based UK marine conservation project that Sea-Changers has been set up to fund. They work closely with local fishermen to create a sustainable solution to preserve the lobster population in Cornwall in a way that works for everyone. We are delighted to provide our first grant to such a worthwhile project.”
