Helen Swims for the Sea

Sea-Changers supporter, Helen Ketcher is taking to the water to raise money for Sea-Changers. On Sunday 10th July, at Pugney's Country Park in Wakefield, Helen is taking part in the 'Swim for All' event. Helen will be required to swim 500 metres (about 20 lengths of your average pool, but no stopping!) along with up to 1,000 people who will all be raising money for different charities. We’re delighted that Helen chose to support Sea-Changers.

Helen said; “I've never done anything like this (in fact I’ve never exercised three times a week in my life!), but I have been swimming regularly for the last 10 weeks - it's been a great incentive to get in the pool. I've swum in the sea before, but only messing about and I couldn't swim more than a few lengths without stopping, when I started training in April. The Wakefield Triathlon club have been hosting training sessions too, ahead of the swim, so I’ve seen the lake, had a safety briefing and felt how cold it is - the water really takes your breath away to start with, but getting your face wet first really helps.  It would be easy to chicken out if I were just doing it for me, but now sponsor money has started to arrive, so I will be thinking about the money we're raising when I get pond weed between my toes!” There's still time to sponsor Helen (Download PDF here: Sea-Changers Sponsorship Form ) or look out for the Sea-Changers T-shirt if you go along to watch on 10th July.”
