Liverpool Bay Marine Life Trust

Grant awarded - £500

Liverpool Bay Marine Life Trust is a small charity dedicated to the study of the species that inhabit the bay and to educate the public about the wealth of species that inhabit Liverpool Bay.

The aim of the project is to tag sharks of various species in Liverpool Bay using plastic dart tags supplied by the UK Shark Tagging Programme. LBMLT are specifically hoping to tag Tope (Galeorhinus galeus) as anecdotal evidence suggests that this species has declined in the region. THEY are hoping that we can more accurately assess the population in the area building upon previous data they have collected. Tope is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN and is believed to be in decline worldwide. In the absence of Tope the team will also tag species such as common and starry smoothhounds

Awaiting the project evaluation.
