Appledore Sustainable Fish

Grant awarded - £500

Appledore Sustainable Fish is a community group of local people in Appledore, North Devon, who include teachers, business people and fishermen

The 'Sharks Tales' project is about Appledore’s fishing heritage - past, present and future, conservation and healthy sustainable fish.Working with the Shark Trust and local groups including the churches and Appledore Carnival, the Sharks Tales event promoted the conservation of sharks that swim off the North Devon coast.

The aim of the event was to have fun and educate children, families and all ages of local people and visitors to Appledore.  ASF ran a Mermaid's Purse/Skate Egg Hunt Competition and Flotsam craft workshop, and there were talks by Appledore Shark Angling Club and the Shark Trust. The cookery demonstration showcased dishes for sustainable skate and rock salmon and local scallops.

The event was well attended and feedback suggested it was very informative.
