Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch

Grant awarded - £500

Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch is a charity based on the Isle of Man working towards the conservation and public awareness of whales, dolphins and porpoises found in Manx territorial waters.

With funding from Sea-Changers they are embarking on a new project aimed at increasing the number of sightings reported from members of the public and getting the local community actively involved with marine mammal conservation. MWDW will be producing 250 sea-users' record books which will be available to anyone who uses Manx waters for commercial or recreational purposes. The books will include an identification guide and a code of conduct as well as room to note down detailed information surrounding any sightings they have.

The information collected from these books will greatly increase knowledge of the spatial and temporal distribution of the 5 key species of cetacean found in Manx waters. The books will also raise awareness of the presence of local species of cetacean and how to appropriately operate a vessel around them.

This project is still running and hasn't been evaluated yet.
