Seasearch Northern Ireland

Grant awarded - £500

Seasearch is a citizen science project for volunteer sports divers who have an interest in what they're seeing under water, want to learn more and want to help protect the marine environment around the coasts of Britain and Ireland.

Using this funding from Sea-Changers, volunteer scuba-divers will complete a quantitative survey of a seagrass bed, which was proposed in 2014-15 as a new Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ). The density and area of this seagrass bed has not been surveyed by volunteers since 2012, when it was established that this is the largest sub-tidal seagrass bed in NI. This project is to provide training to divers in survey methods and complete a survey of the seagrass bed by up to ten divers.

This project is still running and hasn't been evaluated yet.
