Litter Free Coast and Sea

Grant awarded - £500

2minutebeachclean is a fast-growing campaign owned by The Beach Clean Network and supported by Litter Free Coast and Sea in Dorset. The premise of the campaign is simple: set-up stations made of sturdy, attractive A frame boards with a slot for recycled carrier bags and a pocket for litter pickers. Participants simply take a bag and a picker from the station, spend two minutes picking litter and share a picture of their haul on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #2minutebeachclean before disposing of it in a nearby bin and returning the litter picker. Each station is looked after by a host business or organisation who puts the station out each day and makes sure it’s kept stocked with bags and litter pickers.

Litter Free Coast and Sea believe schemes like 2minutebeachclean empower communities to take responsibility for their own beaches. They are an important part of the work to inspire change through consumer choice and responsible disposal of end-of-life products before they become litter. Currently there are 12 stations across Dorset, all of which are well-used by their local communities, and these two new ones will fill key gaps in the network at West Bay and Lyme Regis.
