Boat Share Finder

The innovative project, Boat Share Finder is working with Sea-Changers to show its commitment to marine conservation. BoatShareFinder.com is a portal bringing together existing boat owners and aspiring boat owners to buy and sell shares in all types of vessels quickly and easily. But instead of charging for this service they ask their customers to do a simple but generous thing: make a donation based on what they feel the service is worth. With one of the nominated charities being Sea-Changers, this donation  is then used to support the health of the UK’s seas.

Boat Share Finder and Sea-Changers have been working together for some time. At the London Boat Show in January 2015 they raised £550 pounds for Sea-Changers by asking their stand visitors to make a donation in return for a refillable water bottle. This latest arrangement further demonstrates the Boat Share Finder team’s commitment to supporting marine conservation action through collaborative approach, which is at the heart of the Boat Share Finder philosophy.

The money raised will feed into Sea-Changers’ grant fund which is distributed to UK based marine conservation projects.

Ross Smith, from BoatShareFinder.com said: “We are passionate making sailing accessible for all and we want to ensure that we have a wonderful sailing environment for future generations. By supporting Sea-Changers we are helping to achieve that. Maybe the next step is for boat owners to be the eyes and ears of marine conservation so this partnership can benefit boaters and Sea Changers both economically and ecologically… a kind of a neighbourhood watch equivalent for our waterways?!”

Rachel Lopata, Co-Founder of Sea-Changers said: “We love working with Boat Share Finder. They have an energy and enthusiasm for all they do and they are always looking for innovative ways to support the passions and causes that are close to their hearts. Central to their approach is the idea of social enterprise and collaboration and we are very like-minded in that respect. We guarantee that 100% of every donation we receive via Boat Share Finder’s website will get passed on to support much needed UK marine conservation work.”

Since the beginning of 2016 Boat Share Finder have raised over £2500 for Sea-Changers.  You can add to this total buy visiting their donation page here.

Hebridean Island Cruises

In April 2012 Hebridean Island Cruises became the first UK cruise company to provide their guests with the opportunity to make a significant contribution towards marine conservation.
Hebridean committed to asking their customers for a recommended donation of £20 as each booking is made (guests can donate more, if they prefer). Guests are not under any obligation to make the donation, but all the donations made in this way are  collected by Hebridean Island Cruises and handed to Sea-Changers, the new marine conservation charity specifically set up to establish partnerships of this kind.

100% of the money raised by Hebridean Island Cruises’ customers will be passed on to relevant marine conservation charities and projects, with no administration costs subtracted.

The partnership was publicised by Hebridean Island Cruises in the following ways:

  • In their Annual Brochure
  • In their newsletter, the Hebridean Times
  • Through a joint press release with Sea-Changers

The donation request was reflected on their booking form. News about the partnership attracted interest from the press and attracted coverage on 17 cruise related websites. Sea-Changers also publicise the partnership through social media channels.

Since implementing their voluntary donation model for Sea-Changers, Hebridean Island Cruises’  guests have donated over £23,000 to support marine conservation work in the UK.

Over 30% of Hebridean’s guests have chosen to donate, with many choosing to donate more than the recommended £20.

Ken Charleson, Sales and Marketing Director of Hebridean Island Cruises said: “The preservation of Hebridean Princess’ cruising environment and the marine life which it supports is of great importance to the company. We’re delighted to have formed this partnership in order to give our customers the opportunity to give something back to environment they enjoy aboard the Hebridean Princess.”

Water-To-Go

In 2016 we developed a new partnership with the Water Filtration bottle company Water-to-Go. This partnership provides an opportunity for people to ensure they have safe drinking water, wherever they are in the world, whilst also doing their part for healthier oceans.

Unfortunately, sometimes when we travel we are forced to buy bottled water when there is not a safe alternative. Single-use water bottles are having a devastating impact on our planet with the latest World Economic Forum report indicating that plastic waste could outnumber fish in the ocean by the year 2050.

The filter in Water-to-Go’s bottles uses a unique patented technology to filter more than 99.9% of water borne contaminants from any non-saltwater source in the world. Lightweight and easy to carry this is a perfect everyday water bottle that you can take anywhere. Buying a Water-to-Go bottle has always had environmental benefits since it reduces the need to buy bottled mineral water, thus reducing plastic waste.

With the new partnership purchasers get a 15% discount on every Water-to-Go order and at the same time 15% of the value of their purchase will be donated to Sea-Changers. Sea-Changers will ensure that every penny raised through the partnership will go to vital marine conservation work in the UK.

Rachel Lopata, Co-Founder of Sea-Changers said: “The partnership with Water-to-Go is very exciting. We believe that many people who travel the world to enjoy the beauty of the oceans will benefit from having a Water-to-Go bottle as it makes tap water and all other fresh water (from rivers or rainfall) safe to drink, wherever they are in the world. Knowing that at the same time, their purchase has raised funds to help the health of the oceans here in the UK is surely a double whammy!”

To buy your bottles just go to www.watertogo.org  and enter SEACHANGERS at the checkout.
