2016 – Grant Awarded - £500

Buglife is the only European charity dedicated to the conservation of all invertebrates. The collection of beautiful seashells at the beach is a popular past time of adults and children alike. These shells are also potential citizen-science data that can tell us a great deal about marine invertebrates. This national project aims to encourage beach-goers to submit their sightings of common marine mollusc species to provide desperately needed data on these under-recorded animals. This data can be used to help wider efforts to provide a greater understanding of native marine molluscs and where they live, as well as to track the spread of invasive marine species. Through this project we also aim to raise awareness of issues affecting our marine wildlife such as overharvesting, pollution, habitat degradation and the spread of invasive alien species and what they can do to help as sea-users.
